Social Workers’ Day on 1-2 April 2009

The Accreditation Secretariat of the Singapore Association of Social Workers (SASW) was proud to be the sponsor for the Social Workers’ Day organised by the NUS Society of Social Work Students (SSWS) at the campus on 1-2 April 09.  The purpose of the event was to inform students about the accreditation of social workers and social service practitioners which started on 1 April 09 and to encourage undergraduates to take up social work as a major and eventually, as a career.  And what better ways to do this than through T-shirts printed with the Social Work Accreditation Board logo to be worn by students around the campus and an inspiring speech by Ms Nancy Teo, Head of Accreditation of SASW.  To loud cheers from the students, Ms Teo talked about the need for social workers in Singapore, the objectives of accreditation and the benefits of joining SASW as a member.  A total of 150 accreditation and membership application forms each were distributed to the students.  Dr Rosaleen Ow, Head of Department of Social Work and a member of the Social Work Accreditation Board was also present to acknowledge and thank the Secretariat and SASW for making the event possible. The 2-day event reached out to more than 300 students.
