Senior Social Worker/Social Worker

  • To provide and facilitate psycho-social assessments to help cancer patients and their families manage impact of cancer and progression.
  • To provide ongoing individual and group counselling through face-to-face sessions or home visitations to cancer patients and their families in order to help them navigate the personal and ethical dilemmas, cultural conflicts, and issues relating to religion, spirituality, and the meaning of life with the impact of cancer.
  • To support patients and their families at the end-of-life stage through counselling or implementing programs to support meaningful living.
  • To provide bereavement information, education, and support to help families of deceased patients cope with their grief and loss.
  • To prepare social and other related reports for management and other related institutions/agencies.
  • To present cases for discussion on formal platforms such as departmental or inter-departmental meetings for the purposes of sharing, reviewing, and clarifying atypical or difficult issues.
  • To attend trans-disciplinary team meetings with medical staff, nurses, and other allied healthcare professionals to discuss, propose, and coordinate care plans for patients.
  • To perform liaison work with other healthcare professionals and external agencies to coordinate care for patients/families.
  • To provide Advocacy services for cancer patients and their families to remove barriers to quality care and to address gaps in service.

Technical Competencies:

  • Recognised Degree majoring in Social Work and/or Master Degree in Counselling.
  • Preferably registered social worker (RSW) with the Singapore Association of Social Workers (SASW) and/or Singapore Association for Counselling (SAC).

Core Competencies:

  • Good interpersonal skills, ability to work independently as well as function as an effective team player.
  • Dynamic, self-motivated, and patient-oriented.

Preferred achievements / characteristics:

  • At least 2 to 3 years of relevant experience, preferably in a healthcare environment.
